Portfolio optimization Service
Organizations seeking to maximize the returns on their IT investments, have realized the importance of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). While many organizations have focused on TCO as a metric in their bid to reduce costs, others have considered it as a base line from which the value that IT adds to the business is measured.
At Birlasoft, we understand that once customers have invested in products and systems, they are entitled to expect maximum return. To make this happen, we have created a solution, which focuses on systematic portfolio assessment to compute and enhance Return on Investment.

WHAT BIRLASOFT OFFERS
Birlasoft's portfolio assessment, using
SPAN methodology ®, provides an introduction to the concept
of TCO, by explaining its relevance, exploring a few myths and
looking at some steps companies can take to reduce TCO in their
own organization. Further, it illustrates how we can help customers
drive down TCO, while increasing the contribution that IT makes
towards the business.
SPAN methodology ®
Birlasoft's SPAN methodology ® is used for Application portfolio
analysis. It assesses the applications based on their complexity,
business criticality, availability of documentation etc. and assesses
the potential risk associated with offshore support. It also analysis
potential TCO savings opportunities by optimum onsite / offshore
support. Based on this risk and TCO benefits computation, it categorizes
IT applications into four categories. These four categories are
"Safe", "Perfect", "Next" and "Avoid.

SPAN categories
- Perfect: Applications, under "Perfect"
category, are the applications which indicate high benefits
and low risk for offshore support.
- Safe: Applications, under "Safe" category,
are the applications which indicate low benefits and low
risk for offshore support.
- Next: Applications, under "Next" category,
are the applications which indicate high benefits and high
risk for offshore support. These applications require thorough
analysis of associated risk and preparation of risk mitigation
strategy, before moving them for offshore support. This
category indicates high probability of cost saving after
risk mitigation.
- Avoid: Applications, under "Avoid" category,
are the applications which indicate low benefits and high
risk for offshore support. These applications require thorough
analysis of associated risks and preparation of risk mitigation
strategy. They are not recommended for offshore support
and require only onsite support.
Based on these categorizations, an Onsite / Offshore support
model is developed.
