The team kicked off this initiative by migrating third-party hosted Business Warehouse and Business Intelligence (BI) environments to the in-house SAP HANA platform. This also included upgrading the SAP Business Warehouse application and SAP BusinessObjects™ BI platform to the latest release from SAP. Next, the team built an integrated Enterprise Data Warehouse that brought together data across all of the various systems to create a single source of truth to drive reporting.
EDF RE wanted to use the powerful analytics capabilities of SAP HANA with operational data in its OSIsoft PI System. KPIT and EDF RE worked with SAP and OSIsoft to deliver the SAP HANA IoT Connector that connects with the OSIsoft PI System to provision machine data into the SAP HANA platform, which provides the means to improve process efficiencies, asset health, energy utilization, safety and quality. This new integration enables sensor-based data collected by the OSIsoft PI System to be more easily filtered, cleansed, shaped and integrated in near real time for advanced analytics and decision making using SAP HANA as an industry-leading system, tool and database.
Matthias Beier, Vice President of Information Technology at EDF Renewable Energy said, “With KPIT's effective partnership and deep expertise with SAP HANA, EDF RE was able to successfully take on the Enterprise Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse Platform initiative to consolidate our data into a single source of truth. With KPIT’s help, we can now use SAP HANA and the SAP HANA IoT Connector by OSIsoft to analyze and visualize operations in an integrated manner. This will generate new insights that will allow us to dramatically improve our bottom line. We can now operate more effectively as an organization through improved visibility and harmony between our various systems.”
Commenting on the deployment of the Enterprise Business Intelligence and Data Warehouse Platform initiative at EDF RE, Aasim Hasan, Executive Vice President and Utilities Business Leader, KPIT, said, “The success of this initiative can be attributed to our strong collaboration with the teams at EDF RE, SAP and OSIsoft. This is just one of the many ways that KPIT and SAP HANA help utilities perform at the next level.”
“As in other fast-moving business, utilities today can no longer afford the separation of operational and IT data. Delays accessing and analyzing the data are barriers to digital transformation,” said Lloyd Adams, national vice president, Utilities, at SAP. “SAP and KPIT have been partners in the utilities industry for years. We anticipate that use of the SAP HANA platform in conjunction with the OSIsoft PI infrastructure will further help customers to analyze data, gain insights, and take action in real time.”
